The bride of the Sardius is equipped with the latest in navigation and communications, such as an integrated navigation system and a V-SAT for unlimited global internet access. Its luxurious accommodations are equipped with a bar, fitness area, and satellite TV at various points.
The Sardius is an “Icebox 5200” type, referring to Finnish/Swedish ice class 1A, the 100% box-shaped hold, and the cargo capacity. A novelty of this ship is that the 1A ice class was achieved by a clever combination of its hull-shape, screw, and nozzle, making it possible to achieve the highest ice class notation at a power of only 1800 kW. As a result, the ship’s maintenance and fuel costs are low. In addition, the ship has a hatch cover system with pontoon hatch covers which can be stacked entirely separate from the hold, thus freeing up the entire hold opening for loading.
The ship was built by Peters Shipyards, Kampen, the Netherlands. The Sardius has been in service since 1 July 2011.
